Cablegate: The Game

December 20, 2010

A Wikileaks-themed game that has been getting a lot of press lately is Cablegate: The Game. From the game’s website:

Tag and summarize your way through the cablegate archive and help make sense of it all. The Revolution Will Be Categorized!

To play, select from the cable text an important name, group, event, topic or place and tag it appropriately. Points are awarded for tags that have been already guessed by other players. Have fun!

The game has been mentioned on Slashdot, BoingBoing and a number of other big websites, and it seems to be getting a lot of players! This represents a really interesting approach to confronting people with the Wikileaks materials, and could probably be expanded to other types of news, too. Appealing to humanity’s obsession with categorizing things is not always a good thing, but in this case it’s an excellent idea.

Admittedly, it does sound like a very interesting idea, and will definitely get people reading the cables if only to satisfy their inner bureaucrat.
